ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, ROSLYN

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of parishioners of St. John’s Church, Roslyn, was held last Monday, when there was a large attendance of parishioners. The vicar (Archdeacon W. A. R. Fitchett), in moving the adoption of the report and statement of accounts, said he had much pleasure in reporting that the parish activities and organisations were full of enthusiasm and doing good work. The buildings had all been maintained in good repair, and some improvements to the heating of the hall effected. During the year the beauty of the church had been further enhanced by the gift of a memorial baptistery by Mr and Mrs A. J. Milliner as a memorial to their son, Albert Richard, who died on Christmas Day, 1931. The grounds had also been improved by the main path being edged with a permanent concrete edging, and most of the labour and material had been provided by parishioners. All the parish organisations had done good work during the year, and the Sunday school was maintaining its numbers. Mr John Simpson seconded the adoption, and said he was pleased to be able to report that the finances were in good shape, despite the stressful times. The year had finished with a small debit balance at the bank, but had shown an improvement of £2l 7s on the year’s working. The vicarage mortgage redemption fund had also been improved by £8 17s 3d. The bazaar held’ in Octob.cr had been very successful, and if it had not been for the work of the ladies’ and church organisations in this respect the finances would have been badly in debit. Messrs W. J. Davie, J. T. Dawson, and G. Z. Bindley also spoke to the motion, and congratulated the vestry on being able to bring down such a good report. The motion was carried unanimously. Archdeacon Fitchett, in nominating his warden..advised the parishioners that Mr W. J. Davie, who had been his warden for eight years., had asked to be permitted to retire, and he had reluctantly had to agree. Fe had much pleasure in nominating Mr W, E, Earnshaw as his successor. The parishioners passed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Davie for his long service in the office of warden. Mr John Simpson was unanimously reappointed parishioners’ warden. The following were elected as members of the vestry:—R. W. S. Bolting. F. B. Buttle. T." Conly, W. J. Davie, R. E. Davidson, L. W. Green, A. Goodley. E. Moir,» E. Rackley, F, J. Rolfe. Messrs G. Z. Bindley and J. T. liawson were reappointed auditors, and a hearty vote of thanks accorded them for their services. The vicar moved a hearty vole of thanks to all the parish organisations and parishioners who had helped with the church work during the year, and this was carried by acclamation. A special vote of thanks to Archdeacon Fitchett as chairman and for the way in which he had controlled the activities of the parish during the year was moved by the wardens and carried unanimously. A short social was held at the conclusion of the meeting, and an enjoyable time was spent.
