NEW CHIEF JUSTICE. SIR JOHN HARVEY APPOINTED. (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright ) SYDNEY, June 30. • Sir John Harvey, at present Chief Justice in Equity, succeeds Sir Philip street as Chief Justice, Sir John Harvey has been a judge of The Supreme Court of New South Wales since 1913. He was educated at Marlborough College and Oxford University, where he distinguished himself. He went to Australia in 1889, and was called to the New South Wales Bar in 1892. He is 68 years of age. THE RURAL BANKS. COMMISSIONERS APPOINTED. SYDNEY, June 30. The Government has decided to reconstitute the Board of Commissioners of Rural Banks as from to-morrow. The Cabinet has appointed three commissioners as follows: —Mr W. H. O’Malley Wood (chairman), Mr C. R. M'Kerihan, and Mr H. Rogers. Mr Wood will act as chairman for (three months pending the appointment of a permanent chairman. THE MISSING COLLIER. STILL NO TRACE FOUND. SYDNEY, June 30. (Received June 30, at 11.55 p.m.) There is no trace of the missing collier Christina Fraser, which, if disabled, will have drifted hundreds of miles across the Tasman by now'. An Air Force flying boat was in the air for eight hours to-day, and reported that its search was fruitless. A email coastal vessel is carrying on the search. , THE CENSUS TAKEN. SYDNEY, June 30. (Received July I', at 0.5 a.m.) The Commonwealth Government carried out a census throughout Australia overnight. It is expected to have an important bearing on the movement of population since the wftr and since the depression began. NEXT YEAR’S CAULFIELD CUP. PRIZE MONEY INCREASED. MELBOURNE, June 30. (Received July 1, at 0.15 a.m.) In connection with the centenary of Victoria next year, the Victoria Amateur Racing Club has decided to increase the Caulfield Cup prize money to £6500 that year. The Moonee Valley Club will make the Moonee Valley Cup worth £3OOO.
