AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP LONDON, June 23. Michael Scott defeated M. Schunk, 2 and 1; Tolley defeated Holden, 2 up. In the semi-final Scott defeated Dunlap, 4 and 3. In the semi-final T. Bourn defeated Tolley at the twentieth. Compson defeated Sarazen 5 and 4 in the first of the five challenge matches over 36 holes.

DETAILS OF THE PLAY, LONDON, June 24. (Received June 25, at 6.30 p.m.) The final was followed by a large crowd. The veteran Scott took the lead early in the first round, winning the first and third. He turned three up with 38 to 42. He increased this to five in the second nine, chiefly owing to Bourn's indifferent putting. The scores at the finish of the first round were: Scott 76, Bourn 82/ In the second round Scott, seemingly tired, lost the first two, but a fine four at the third, when he lay his approach putt dead, suggested a restoration of confidence. Bourn won the next two exchanges. Bourn at the seventh failed with an 8-foot putt and Scott escaped with a half but was still three up. He won the eighth although bunkered, and a perfect half at the ninth left the veteran four up with nine to play. Again at the tenth Bourn’s putting failed, and only a magnificent chip saved him at the eleventh, where Scott’s long putt for two hung on the lip of the hole. Scott bunkered at the twelfth. Bourn was then four down with six to play. The thirteenth and fourteenth were halved, leaving Scott four up with four to play. The fifteenth, where the malcn ended, was halved in six, Scott being bunkered and Bourn slicing into the rough and dropping his next shot. Scores: Scott 67, Bourn 65. - - “ GLORIOUS OLD GENTLEMAN.” LONDON, June 24, (Received June 25, at 5.5 p.m.') “ A truly glorious old gentleman played the young invader off his legs ” is how The Times golfing writer eulogises Scott, winner of the Australian' championship before the 24-year-old Dunlap was born. “To-day he beat a player 30 years his junior, whom the Americans hoped would emulate Bobby Jones. Dunlap slightly outdrove Scott, but repeatedly failed with his iron shots. Scott’s spoon shots placed the ball in the middle of the green, enabling him to outputt the American. Scott two down overwhelmed his opponent by relentless accuracy between the seventh and fifteenth holes. He accomplished nine holes in 23. Bourn, the English champion of 1930, found Tolley erratic and missing putts.” NEW SOUTH WALES CHAMPIONSHIP. SYDNEY, June 24. (Received Juno 25, at (i. 30 p.m.) S. Hattcrsley won the Amateur Golf Championship t>f New South Wales, defeating the youthful Alan Waterson, 3 up and 1 to play, in the final at Kensington links to-day. Hattcrsley established a good lead of 5 up in the morning round. Although Waterson came with a late run at the finish ho was unable to wipe out the deficit. Hattersley was always very steady and accurate, and was perfect witli his iron shots., Waterson, probably through nervousness, was inclined to slice, but his play generally was not up to his usual standard.
