ORGANISATIONS DISSOLVED FUNDS AND PROPERTY SEIZED (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) BERLIN, June 23. The Boy Scouts and similar organisations, except the Catholic group, have been dissolved throughout Germany, and their funds and property seized preparatory to welding them into a “ National Youth Group,” in pursuance of Herr Hitl.er’is claim that Germany’s youth belongs exclusively to the Nazis. CATHOLIC PAPER SUSPENDED A SIGNIFICANT GESTURE. MUNICH, June 23. The Bay.erische Kurier, the official organ of the Catholic People’s Party, has been suspended for a week for reporting the arrests of priests. This, in conjunction with the arrest of Catholic editors, is deemed a prelude to the banning of the party, several members of which have already been dismissed from State and municipal employment. Persons in preventive custody must bear the cost of their own imprisonment. — Times Cable. DRASTIC ACTION POLITICAL PRISONERS TO PAY FOR THEIR KEEP. BERLIN, June 23. On the ground that “it is unjust to make the public pay for the criminal pr disloyal elements,” the political opponents of the Nazis who are in preventive custody are being compelled to pay the expenses of their detention, also for the upkeep of moneyless prisoners. FAMOUS “FLAG SONG” AN EMBARRASSING DISCOVERY. BERLIN, June 23. Naai headquarters are embarrassed by the discovery that Robert Linderer, the author of the famous “ Flag Song,” the official anthem of the German navy, was a Jew. The song, which the exKaiser loved, was so patriotic and popular that it was included in the “Nazi Songbook,” containing only gems of German poetry, BOY SCOUTS SUPPRESSED “A MILITARY ORGANISATION.” LONDON, June 24. (Received June 25, at 8.10 p.m.) Lord Baden-Powell, addressing a Scottish Scout rally, said: —“The German Boy Scouts have been suppressed because they are a military organisation. They are not attached to us, who are neither military nor political.” NECESSITY OF IRON DISCIPLINE BERLIN, June 25. (Received June 25, at 6.30 p.m.) The Minister of Education caused surprise when he announced his intention of establishing universities on the lines of Oxford and Cambridge. He added that Germany needed a young generation with iron discipline ready to obey the interests of common welfare, in which the new universities would play a special part. ALTERING THE CONSTITUTION ACTION BY HERR HITLER. BERLIN, June 24. (Received June 25, at 8 p.m.) Herr Hitler, by the removal of the Communist and Social-Democrat deputies from the Reichstag, has now secured the two-thirds majority necessary for an alteration of the Constitution. THE NAZI SPIRIT BRED IN THE HOME CIRCLE. LONDON, June 23. The Daily Mail’s Berlin correspondent says that the Government is granting a bonus of £l2 10s per baby to newlyweds who secure the housekeeping loan of £SO. A quarter of the loan is remitted for the first child and four children wipe out the entire amount. The loan is only granted in return for whole-hearted support of the Nazi cause.
A cablegram from Berlin under date June 2 read as follows:—The Government’s unemployment scheme includes a tax on unmarried males and females, which will be used for loans of £SO to newly married couples to enable them to furnish homes, thus drawing women back into home life, which the Nazis regard as their proper sphere. Wives who accept furniture must promise not to seek employment while their husbands are earning more than £8 10s a month. The furniture loan will be repayable at 1 per cent, per month. Further to encourage the keeping of servants, householders will be relieved of the payment of unemployed insurance and receive a considerable reduction in income tax, as a domestic servant is regarded as a member of the family. The Government is expected to finance 150,000 mamages every year.
