MUSIC AT THE SAVOY

Merit and balance are qualities of the programme of music to be presented at the Savoy every afternoon and evening this week. A request vocal number for Miss Rita Holmes is “ Somewhere a Voice is Calling,’' a song, of undiminished popularity. Miss Holmes’s lyric voice is eminently suited to this class of song. Miss Holmes will also lead that musical combination, the Savoy Instrumental Trio, through a diverse and carefully chosen programme, bound to appeal to all musical tastes. The overture is “ Beautiful Galathea,” a composition by Suppe seldom heard. The work possesses all the brilliance and tone colouring of Suppe’s better-known overtures, and its freshness will interest the music lovers who 'patronise the Savoy regularly. Other unusual numbers to be played by the trio are “ Tambourin Chinois ” , (Kreisler). “Rondo Capriccioso” (Mendelssohn), and excerpts from “La Tr|viata ” (Verdi). The accomplished violinist, Miss Ethel Wallace, is to present “ Scene de Ballet" (De Beriot), in which her skill should be given full play. The Savoy will again be profusely decorated with flowers.
