ASCENT OF EVEREST
FURTHER DIFFICULTIES BETTER WEATHER AWAITED. LONDON, June 21. Mr Ruttlcdge, in a -wireless message from Mount Everest, says:—“The climbing party reassembled at camp 3 on June 16, but examination of the north col slopes showed them to be deep in show. The apparent improvement in the weather was fallacious, as snow in the evening replaced the effects of the morning’s sun. A careful report from the meteorological office at Calcutta indicates little hope of improvement before the middle of September. We must return to the base camp for the present, as avalanches are pouring off Everest and the mountain cannot be approached for many days.” I
