QUEENSTOWN NOTES
(From Our Own Corrkspondent.) QUEENSTOWN, June 20. FOOTBALL. On Saturday afternoon Queenstown and Country Seniors met in a cup fixture, when the former won by 22 points to nil. Country and Queenstown Juniors also met, the latter having an easy win by 17 to nil. There was also a school match between Arthur’s Point , and Queenstown Public School boys the same afternoon, the game ending in a draw. The cup matches will be suspended next Saturday in order that Possibles may play Probables with a view to giving the selectors an opportunity of sorting out a country team to play a Junior Grade fifteen at Invercargill. VALEDICTORY. Last night the Queenstown Company of Girl Guides bade farewell to Miss E. Leslie, the first captain of the company, who is about to take her departure to Okuku, North Canterbury. Miss I. Ingles, captain of the Guides, asked Miss Leslie to accept from the girls a suedecovered writing companion in appreciation of her good offices in connection with the initial stages of the Guide movement. Miss Leslie made a suitable reply. GENERAL. Miss M. Graham, of Invercargill, has been appointed temporary sole teacher of the Crown Terrace School. Miss Graham commenced duty yesterday. Mr Tom M'Neil, of the local postal staff, has received notice of his transfer to Invercargill. Mr Donaldson, of the Invercargill exchange, will come to Queenstown. Mr A. W. Turner, ,of Dunedin, arrived here during the week for the purpose of carrying out advance boring operations at Big Beach and Tucker Beach. Arrangements to this end were recently completed with the Mines Department. ' The overhaul of the s.s. Ben Lomond is almost completed, and it is proposed that she re-enter commission on the lake on Friday next. The s.s. Earnslaw will then be withdrawn for her annual overhaul. Copies of the petition which is to be presented to the Governor-General praying that the constituent districts qf the Boroughs of Queenstown and Arrowtown and part of the County of Lake be constituted an electric power district are now being made available for inspection. The proposal is to purchase the Wye Creek power plant which operates the Golden Terrace Company's dredge. , PERSONAL. Mr J. Mackenzie, of Walter Peak Station, left yesterday for Wellington as one of the southern delegates to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Federation. ■ Mr L. S. Dawson, Government inspector of machinery, arrived here last night on departmental, business.
