FOOTBALLER ASSAULTED
What is described by eye-witnesses as a dastardly assault occurred at the Owaka football ground, on Saturday .at the conclusion of the match between Owaka and Woodlands, in which the former team was victorious. Russell Jackman, a lad of 18, who is a member of the Owaka team, was knocked unconscious as he was leaving the field by a blow from a member of the Woodlands team. Jackman was carried to the dressing shed and a doctor summoned, and it was a considerable time before he regained, consciousness and was able to be taken by car to his father’s home at. Romahapa. The Railway. Hotel, which- has been closed for some years, has been bought tor removal by Mr H. T. Bain, of Christchurch, who was a well-known resident of Balclutha 27 years ago.; The. hotel was built by Mr John M‘Corley; and is one of the oldest wooden buildings of a public character in Balclutha.
