(From Our Own Correspondent.) WAIKOUAITI. June 20.
COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL,
At Waikouaiti Hall on Saturday evening there was a very large gathering of residents of the district. The Mayor (Mr Andrew Fell), in opening the proceedings, characterised the meeting as a gesture of goodwill and respect to Mr Davis, who had relinquished business and intended taking a holiday trip. _ The following programme was carried out:—Pianoforte solo, Miss Sandford; community singing (Miss Summers pianist) ; recitation, Master Garth Griffiths; duets, Mrs and Mr Penno (Miss Penno accompanying); songs, Mr F. Toomey and Mr Penno. Speeches appropriate to the occasion were given by the Mayor, Mr R. M. Templeton (Borough Council), Mr F. Toomey (chairman of directors of the Dairy Company), Mr Neil Stewart, Mr Percy Heckler (chairman of the Domain Board) > and! Mr J. Preston. Several presentations were also made to the guest of the evening. Mr Davis made a suitable reply.
