BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS i i (From Ode Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, June 19. FOOTBALL SUB-UNION AFFAIRS, s Mr R. Scott (president) occupied the chair at the weekly meeting of the Emergency Committee of the South Otago Subunioll - - „ ~ Mr J. Nicol (referee in the ValleyWaiwera match) reported having had to order a spectator on the field for using obscene language and inciting the players to “ make it rough.”—lt was pointed out that spectators were often the cause ot much rough play, and it was decided that the spectator mentioned be written to and informed that any further breach of a similar nature would be placed in the bands of the police. Clearances were approved of as foljows;—E. Geary, Southern to Owaka; Sim, Heriot to Clutha. . Several doctors’ certificates notifying injuries to players were received. Referees for next Saturday were appointed as follows; —-Senior; Star-Cres-cent, at Kaitangata (Mr R. Watson); Woodlands-Clutha, at Balclutha (the Rev F. J. Handy); Toko-Owaka at Owaka (Mr A. Fraser). Second Grade: Clutha-Toko, at Milton (Mr J. Gibb), Union-Valley, at Clydevale (the Rev. H. Mitchell); Crescent-W ai wera, at V\aiwera (Mr J. Nicol). Third Grade: South Otago H.S.-Toko, at Milton (Mr J, PowleV); Toko D.H.S.-Crescent, at Kaitangata (Mr A. Good). GOLF. A Men’s Bogey Match on the local links on Saturday was won by VV. Randle, 1 down (handicap 11): T. M. Thompson, 2 down (handicap 5), in second place. CHARGED BY A BULL. On Saturday afternoon, while driving cattle from the railway yards along Frances street to his paddock at South Rosebank, Mr Simon Wright was charged by a bull and knocked down, one of the animal’s horns just missing penetrating Mr Wright’s right leg. As it Was, the leg was grazed near the ankle, and the trouser leg ripped. Fortunately, a team of horses driven by Mr R« Mills iritervened between Mr Wright and 3 further attack by the bull, and Mr lan Wright, who was on horseback, was able to anve the animal off. The bull (a two-yenr-old) had broken away from the other cattle and jumped a fence into private land near the High School. Mr K en Wright drove it back, and it was then that it charged his father, who was on foot. Mr Wright is now confined to bed suffering from shock and brumes, but is fortunately not seriously hurt.
