PALMERSTON NOTES

(From Our Own Cobbespondeht.) PALMERSTON, June 19, ARDLEIGH GOLF CLUB.

At a general meeting of members of the Ardleigh Golf Club Mr W. A. Spence was appointed secretary, vice Mr H. M. Morrison, who has been transferred to Heriot. In the second round of the Club Championship W. A. Spence defeated G. E. Smith at the twentieth, and in the third round Dr Fitzgerald defeated R. G. Hudson, 3 and 2. Dr Fitzgerald also defeated E. L. A. Rolfe, 8 and 6, in the second round.

A Medal Match resulted:—N. Matheson, 88—28—60; G. Thomson, 91—26 65; E. L. Fitzgerald, 78—8 —70; G. E. Smith, 97—27—70. During the week-end a friendly match was played between members of the Ardleigh and Port Chalmers Clubs at the Ardleigh links. The following are the results (Ardleigh names first) : —Morning round— Fitzgerald and Spence defeated Watson and Paul, 5 and 4; G. Hudson and Willoughby defeated Forsyth and Blackman, 3 and 2; Olsen and Smith lost to Ellis and Commetti, 3 and 2: R. Hudson and Thomson v. Crawford and P. Hunter ended all square; Cochrane and Matheson defeated A. Hunter and Wilkin, 1 up. Afternoon round—Fitzgerald and Spence defeated Watson and Paul, 2 up; G. Hudson and Willoughby defeated Forsyth and Blackman, 5 and 4: Nichol and Smith lost to Ellis and Commetti, 2 up; R. Hudson and Thomson defeated Crawford and P. Hunter, 3 and 2; Cochrane and Matheson ,v. A. Hunter and Wilkin ended all square.

On the day’s play Ardleigh won by four matches, two in the morning and two in the afternoon.
