MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Agricultural and •Pastoral Society was held on Thursday afternoon, and attended by Messrs'S. Bowman (president.) in the chair, R. T. Kirk, H. C._ Campbell,, D. Andrew, H. M. Driver D.MReid, E. F. Duthie, George Ross, W. 0. M'KeHar, J. Young, A. Johnson, F. J. Conn, B. i S. Irwin, J. Hellyer, James Begg,. and John Mitchell. . • . ;', ■-- . t ' Before proceeding with the business or the meeting the president made reference to Mr George Black's bereavement in the death of Mrs Black, and also to the loss suffered by Mr Nevill Murdoch in the death' of his mother. A motion of sympathy was passed, members standing in silcncs. ■' The newly elected members of committee for Dunedin district—Messrs B. S. Irwin, D.-M. Reid, and John Mitchellwere welcomed by the president, who said he hoped their duties as members of committees would be as pleasant, to themselves as he felt sure their experience would be beneficial to the society: The secretary read the minutes of the. special meeting held on May 3, when the executive's recommendation was approved, that Messrs Harry Allan, H. M. Driver, Herbert Price, George Black, and Edgar C. Hazlett should be appointed lion, life members, of the society, and this was confirmed at the annual meeting the same evening. The sub-committee which' waited on Mr J. G. Cobbe in reference to licensing of showmen reported that the Minister was in sympathy with the proposal, and indicated that the necessary legislation would probably be passed at, an early date. • • Accounts amounting to £1073 Is Id were submitted to the Finance Committee for approval and payment. ' A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Winter Show was submitted and approval expressed.at the A letter was received from Mr H. M. Driver (Clarendon) nominating Mr John Allison (Clarksville) as one member of committee for Bruce and Clutha district, for which at present there were two vacancies. n ,, ._ , Mr James D. Calder (Ratanui) wrote objecting to tradesmen's motor vehicles in the ring with the prize stock parade, and suggesting a tradesman's parade of motor vehicles before or after the prize stock parade.—-Left to Stock Committee for attention with recommendation for approval. The following new members were proposed and elected:—Messrs John Allisou (Clarksville), F. J. Lough (Dunedin), Commercial Travellers' Club (Dunedin,), J. F. Webb and Sons (Cromwell), D. F. Sadys Wunsch (Edendale), James Chapman (Dunback), George Sutherland (Macraes Flat), James Scott (Dunedin), John Cochrane (Awamangu).
