BOWLING

BALMACEWEN CLUB The annual meeting of the bowling section of the Balmacewen Club was held in the pavilion on Saturday night. The president (Mr W. A. Ross) was in the chair. The chairman referred to the death of Mrs O. Balk and Mrs J. Harraway, wives of two of the club's members, and a motion of condolence with the relatives was carried. The chairman said he could not elaborate on the report placed before members, as it fully covered the club's operations last year. They had tried an experiment on the green with the object of making an improvement, and he wished to thank Mr F. Lambert and others for their energy in this direction. A large number had given their services, and it was hoped that the club would reap I the benefit later on. He also wished to thank the green-keeper and the Green Committee for the manner in which they had looked after the area. He mov«d the adoption of the report and balance sheet. The motion was seconded by Mr W. Morrison, and carried. '.'■''■ The chairman presented the prizes to last year's winners, and complimented them on their performances. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Lambert for a donation towards the expense of improving the green. A vote of thanks was also passed to Mr D. Leslie for the capable manner in which he had carried out his duties as secretary. It was decided that the club competitions should be the same as those of last year. The meeting decided that the selectors should grade out players who competed each evening, and draw the rinks accordingly. The meeting also decided that 12 rinks should be played in the club competitions, and that the club should enter for the Adess Shield, the champion of champions, the four-rink championship, and one rink for the Wednesday competitions. Mr G. Nelson, of the Dunedin Bowling Club, forwarded a list of suggested fixtures, for the 1933-34 season, which he considered would be suitable to a great number of bowlers who take part in the Dunedin Centre's competitions.—lt was decided to support the suggested dates of matches, with the exception of the clause which stated that if a wet day was experienced, No. 14 should be dropped, and if there were two wet days Nos. 14 and 13 be dropped. The meeting agreed that any match abandoned owing to wet weather should be eliminated. Members expressed the opinion that the schedule submitted by Mr Nelson was more acceptable than the remit forwarded by the Caversham Bowling Club. This remit was to the effect- that the Dunedin Centre be asked to arrange for additional club competition matches to be played each season.

It was decided that the question of the .mnimum size and weight of bowls should be left to the New Zealand Bowling Association to adjust. It was further decided tr support the remit to be placed before the centre that three bowls be used 'Or tournament doubles; and also that it be a suggestion to the club's delegate to support a time limit for section play and that for green winners and section ties a definite number of heads be played. The following office-bearers were elected foi the ensuing year:—President, Mr W. A Ross; vice-president, Mr J. Melville: secretary, Mr _D. Leslie; delegates to Dunedin Bowling Centre, Messrs W.
