MANIOTOTO COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Maniotbto County Council was held on June 9, those present being Crs H. W. Davis (chairman), W. Howell, R. Scott, E. Morgan, T. A. Lowis, W. M. Mathewson, P. Aitken, and" Thomas Hall. INSPECTORS' REPORTS. The ranger and poiindkeeper reported that during the mouth of May 12 head of cattle were impounded while 12 head of" cattle and three, horses were released before reaching the pound. The fees collected were: Pound fees £2 2s, ranging fees £1 19s.—Received. The health inspector's report for the months of April and May showed that 41 sanitary inspections had been, made and three- requisitions had been served; 78 samples bad been taken for analysis and examination.—Received. CORRESPONDENCE. The following applications for renewal of slaughterhouse licenses were received and approved:—William Pringle (Ranfurly), Alexander Nelson (Oturehua), Thomas W. Robinson (Naseby). An application was made on behalf of Messrs Reid and Strode for the council's consent to their application to the Warden's Court for a water-race which would cross the road at three points.—lt was decided that the council offer no objection to the application provided that the construction of the road crossings meets with the. approval of the county engineer. The medical officer of health, Dunedin, wrote asking if the council were prepared to take over the function of appointment of trustees for the Swinb'urn, Hyde, and Ranfurly cemeteries. It was agreed that the council would take over the function of appointing trustees to the three cemeteries mentioned. The Commissioner of Transport, Wellington, wrote asking if the council considered that the Palmerston-Queenstown main highway should be exempted from the present speed limit of 40 miles per hour. The council considered that the present speed limit of 40 miles per hour was more than adequate and that this limit should be reduced to 30 miles per hour on the section between Waiherao Station and the Swinburn bridge. The secretary of the New Zealand Counties' Association wrote advising that the Counties' Conference would be held in Wellington on July 26, 1933, and asked to be advised of the names and addresses of delegates.—Cr Scott was appointed to represent the council at the conference. A reply was received from the Post-master-general advising that the request received from the Naseby Borough Council for the removal of the Kyeburn Diggings Post Office to the Dansey's Pass Hotel cannot be given favourable consideration. —The clerk was instructed to point out that at the meeting of miners,

held in the County Chambers on the occasion of the Minister of Mines' visit, the request was made for the telephone to be extended to the Pass Hotel, not removed from its present location. It was decided to forward the following resolution to the Under-Secretary of Mines:—" That, in view of the fact that serious inconvenience is caused to a large number of miners and holders of mining privileges in the County of Maniototo by reason of there, being no office of the mining registrar in the county, this council strongly urges the Mines Department to appoint a mining registrar at Naseby and to transfer the records relating to the Warden's Court at Naseby from Cromwell to Naseby."—This action was taken at the request of legal firms practising in the county. ENGINEER'S REPORT.

The report of the engineer (Mr R. J. Black), which covered the various works carried out in the county during the month, was adopted.
