COMMITTEES’ REPORTS At the next monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board the following reports will be presented by the various committees:— BENEVOLENT COMMITTEE. Thirty-one cases for • relief have been dealt with at a weekly cost of £35 17s 6d. Casual cases for relief amounting to £533 3s 6d have been approved. A tqtal of 34 men received 183 J days’ work at a cost of £ll4 17s. During the past month eight persons have been admitted to, two discharged from, and two deaths have occurred at the Talboys Home, including the infirmary ward. At present 146 inmates remain in the institution. ' : ' SANATORIUM COMMITTEE. Authority has been granted to close the openings between the patients’ dining room and the verandas at the Wakan Hospital, and also to install sliding sashes and canvas blinds to the back working balcony of the main block, HOSPITAL COMMITTEE. The Blood Transfusion Committee intimates that to ensure a day.and night telephone service, the most suitable place for the blood 1 transfusion ‘ call station would be at the Hospital, and this is approved along with the suggestion that the resident surgical officer should be appointed officer in charge. Authority has been granted to invite tenders for the carrying of steam across the road from the Dunedin Hospital to the Nurses’ Home. The suggestion of the medical superintendent that the Hours of working of the special attendants engaged at the Dunedin Hospital should be reduced from 12 to 8, has be.en approved. FINANCE COMMITTEE.' The Finance Committee will recommend that the proposal of the Department .of Health to hand over to the board, free of cost, the St. Helens Hospital, and that it should be remodelled to enable the maternity work to be concentrated in one institution should be respectfully declined. The committee will also recommend that a trial for a period of 12 months should be given to the proposals submitted by the Louisa Roberts Hospital Committee to carry on this hospital at a reduced expenditure. A reply has been sent to the directorgeneral intimating that the board* does nob anticipate being able to carry on during the current year with a lesser amount than £15,000 allotted on the estimates for outdoor relief, and that it does not feel justified in making a reduction. The estimates have been returned with a request that the Minister of Healtlr should give his approval to permit the board making its levies on local authorities.
