RUGBY FOOTBALL MANIOTOTO SUB-UNION. The usual monthly meeting of the Maniototo Sub-union was held on Monday, and was attended by Messrs W. E. Strode, D. M’Killop, A. Aitchison, W. Rutherford, P. E. Clarke, J. B. M'Gill, Thomas Mitchell, and G. A. Wilson (members of the union), and Mr W. Dowling representing’ the Referees’ Association. In the absence of the president, Mr W. E. Strode occupied the chair. It was reported that in the game Oturehua v. Ranfurly two players were ordered off for striking each other. Mr Dowling, the referee of the game, explained what , took place, and after discussing the matter it was decided to stand the Oturehua player down for one playing Saturday and to place the Ranfurly player on the caution list. The referee of the Naseby-Gimmerburn match reported that the Patearoa ground was not marked out/correctly. The secretary of the Referees’ Association also ,reported that in a recent match certain spectators had been rather objectionable m their criticisms of referees’ decisions, and also reported that complaints had been received from a number of referees that players were not appearing in the colours of their clubs.—lt was resolved to circularise all clubs drawing their attention to the above matters and requesting that they be rectified forthwith, and in the event of failure to comply with the requests that drastic penalties be imposed. The Otago Rugby Football Union, wrote asking the sub-union to nominate a manager for the sub-union team to play at Dunedin on July 29. —It was decided to nominate Mr J. M. Morgan for the position.

A letter was received from the Waihemo Sub-union referring to the annual; county match. —It was decided that July 8 and 15 be set aside for the county matches against Waihemo and Vincent. The secretary of the Primary Schools’ Football Association submitted a set of rules for the governing of school football, and these were duly approved. Accounts amounting to £5 3s were passed for payment. It was suggested by Mr Clark that as there was a large number of young players in senior football this year they should be eligible for selection in the junior county team, and moved that all boys playing senior football who were under the age of 18 years on April 1 be eligible as above.—The motion was seconded by Mr M'Gill. —It was moved as an amendment by Mr Aitchison that the usual method of selecting a junior team be adhered to, and this was seconded by Mr M’Killop.—The amendment,_ on being put to the meeting, was carried. It was resolved to begin the second round of junior matches on Saturday, June 17, and the matter of arranging the draw was left in the hands of the secretary. It was decided to send two teams to play the Eastern Districts Sub-union, as in former years.
