BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS . ■ (From Odr Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, June 14. PERSONAL. Mr G. E. Jamieson, of the Balclutha postal staff, who will leave to-night for Mosgiel, was met this afternoon by his fellow employees and presented with a pipe and tobacco pouch as a mark of their esteem. Mr A. Dawson, postmaster, made the presentation, and spoke very highly of the recipient’s ability and good qualities. Messrs Mulvey (supervisor; and Robertson also spoke, and Mr Jamieson made a suitably reply. His place in the post office here has been filled by Mr Caterer, formerly postmaster at Outram. FREEZING WORKERS. The local Unemployment Committee is tackling the question of the employment of freezing workers when the season at the works ends. This has always been a somewhat vexed question, and the committee intends to ask for a direct ruling from Wellington. CLIFTON SETTLER’S DEATH. Mr C. H. Graham, who died in the Balclutha Hospital yesterday, at the age of 46, was one of the original soldier settlers on the Clifton estate. Having been gassed in the war, his health was none too good, but he put up a gallant fight to make good on the land, and succeeded, notwithstanding that his holding wan in the backblocks, near Popotunoa.
