REICHSTAG BUILDING FIRE NEWSPAPER’S ALLEGATION. BERLIN, April 27. (Received April 28, at 9 p.m.) The German Ambassador in London has been instructed to protest against the Manchester Guardian’s article alleging that Herr Hitler and other members of the Government were responsible for the fire in the Reichstag building. The Government describes such a charge against a. foreign Government as unprecedented. The Guardian’s special correspondent quoted confidential manuscript which is being circulated among Nationalists in Germany, alleging that the fire was started by Herr Goering’s emissaries, who traversed a subterranean passage connecting the Speaker’s house with the Reichstag building, distributed inflammable matter, and left a Dutchman, Vanderlubbe, with Communist documents therein. They then departed through the passage. _ The correspondent attributes the action of the Nazis to disappointment at their failure to accomplish- drastic economic and social changes owing to their association with the Nationalists, who, on the slightest sign of bad faith, are ready to proclaim a military dictatorship. Hence the Nazis, in order to gain their freedom, determined on a desperate expedient to secure a triumph at the election. TREATMENT OF POLISH JEWS FIVE PROTESTS LODGED. LONDON, April 28. (Received April 28, at 11 p.m.) The Daily Express says that the Polish Government, since March 11, has made five successive protests to Germany with respect to maltreatment of its Jewish nationals. The legation in Berlin was supplied with sworn affidavits concerning particulars of the beating and wounding of 147 Polish Jews between March 5 and April 5. Other allegations concern imprisonment and the demolition of property. The Germans on each occasion promised redress, but the Poles claim that they received only vague promises of investigation, or a declaration that the incident was not known to the police. .
