BOXING

a BLAY DEFEATS TROWERN.

(Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 11,

Bobby Blay (Australia) defeated-Reg. Trowern in a hard-fought boxing contest, Trowcrn surrendering at the end of the ninth round. Blay fought vigorously, rousing the large audience to enthusiasm as the contestants freely mixed it in the early rounds. Blay displayed impenetrable defence and cleverly broke his opponent’s guard. His most effective blows were a right cross followed by a left hook. Trowcrn was down three times in the second round and again in the fourth, eighth and ninth rounds, and each time the New Zealander was glad to take the count to nine. It was no surprise when Trowern signified at the end of the ninth round that ho had had enough.
