THE BUTTER MARKET
POSITION IN LONDON TRADERS PESSIMISTIC (United Press Association.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, October 9. The butter market presents a peculiar position. The finest New Zealand butter is definitely short, and is quoted at 116 s, yet Australian butter is in surprisingly poor demand at 104 sto 106 s. It would appear that the strength of the colonial butter market at present is being maintained solely upon the shortage of New Zealand butter. A definite break is not expected for the next few weeks. Traders are pessimistic in regard to the future. The indications of comparatively heavy production in Australia resulted in an entire lack of speculative demand for October shipment. Few buyers are interested even at 965. Several important brokers, however, consider that the pessimism is overdone.
