(From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, October 10. golf SEASON.
The official closing day of the Balclutha Golf Club was held on Saturday. Mixed Foursomes were played between teams selected by the president and the captain. The results was a win for the captain’s team by one game. A long driving, approaching, and putting competition was held for trophies presented by Mr R. D. Macdonald. The winners were Mrs Poynter and W. M'Donald (driving), T. Irving and Miss P. Sinclair (approach and putt). The trophies won during the season were presented by the president (Mr R. D. Macdonald) as follow: —Ladies’ Championship, Mrs Poynter; Men’s Championship, J. Clark; Fleming trophy (Ladies’ Stroke Championship), Mrs Ramsay; Thompson Cup (Men’s Stroke Competition), J. Clark; Ladies’ Junior Championship, Mrs Landels; Men’s Junior Championship, A. L. Allan. ANGLING. Sudden rises in the Pomahaka and the Molyneux Rivers rather spoiled sport for anglers at the week-end, and no baskets of any importance were reported. Anglers from Balclutha, Clinton, and other places visited the Pomahaka, which was very dirty, and the majority of the fishermen failed to catch a .fish. The Molynqnx was in an even worse condition, but one Balclutha fisherman landed two good fish with the artificial minnow in the tidal waters of the Koau branch.
