MILTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILTON, October 10. UNEMPLOYMENT RELIEF. This week’s allocation by the Unemployment Board for Milton and district relief works has been reduced by £40 — from £155 to £ll5 —and as a consequence they time for each worker (married or single) has been reduced by one day. 'This reduced allocation, following upon the stand-down week last week, and also the extended hours necessary in country districts under the Unemployment Board’s latest dictum, makes the lot of the relief worker doubly hard, and strong protests are being voiced by local relief workers. MOTORING ACCIDENT. A motoring accident occurred in the vicinity of Caudletown, near Milton, about 11 o’clock last night, as a result of which a lady passenger in a three-seater car (Mr« Webb, of Mataura) wag admitted to the local hospital suffering from a cut on the head. Her injuries are not serious. The steering gear failed, and the car dashed into a telegraph pole, and was fairly extensively damaged. Two male occupants of the car were students from a Dunedin college who had been conducting Divine services at Mataura. The students escaped injury, and were able to proceed home.
