WORLD’S RECORD PRODUCTION
TARANAKI JERSEY COW (Special to Daily Times.) WELLINGTON, August 26. By finishing her test period with a production of 1220.89Jb of butter-fat the Taranaki cow. Woodlands Felicie, owned by Mr Peterson (Waitara) has broken not only the New Zealand four years’ old class record and Jersey breed record, but the British Empire and world’s records for the breed and the world’s record for her age for any breed. This cow has had a wonderful history and as her monthly figures have been circulated, intense interest has been developed throughout New Zealand in dairy circles at the prospect of the world’s record coming to the Dominion. By the record now established Woodlands Felicic displaces Abigail of Hillside as the premier producer for the breed, having exceeded the former record figure of 1197.511 bby over 231 bof butter-fat. Woodlands Felicie is the first Jersey cow in history to produce over 12001 bof butter-fat and takes rank as the third highest butter-fat producer of the Empire, her record having been exceeded only by the Australian Shorthorn cow Melba 15th with 15161 bof butter-fat, and the Canadian Ayrshire, Nellie Osborne of Elm Shade, with 12571 b of fat at nine years of age. Throughout her test Woodlands Felicie maintained a wonderfully even average production, the monthly tallies being as follows;—August 29.15, September 97.39, October 100.10, November 110.24, December 107.18, January 112.30, February 100.18, March 97.31, April 98.15, May 110.35, June 100.16, July 104.12, August. 54,26; total, 1220.89. Of milk Woodlands Felicie produced 17,332.61 b, and her average test was 7.044 butter-fat. The new world’s recordholder was bred by Mr Harry Sampson, “ 801 l Block,” New Plymouth.
