(From Our Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, July 4. FOOTBALL. The football season in Vincent County is now nearly concluded as far as club games are concerned. The results of Saturday’s matches w’ere as follow; — Matakanui 5, Wanaka 3; Alexandra 3, Clyde 3; Bannockburn 14, Alexandra B nil. COUNTERFEIT COINS. At least two business people in Alexandra have recently received spurious coins in their tills. The coins, which were both florins, were excellent imitations, and the casual observer would certainly have passed them. There was, however, a difference in weight, the counterfeits being the weight of a sixpence lighter than the genuine coin. ECONOMIC CIRCLE. Another well-attended meeting of the Alexandra Economic Circle was held on Thursday evening, a paper on this occasion being prepared by Mr F. R. Whitelock, manager of the Bank of New Zea land. The subject was “Modern Banking,” and at the conclusion of the address a general discussion took place. OBITUARY. , ' The death occurred at the \Dunstan Hospital on Friday morning of one of Alexandra’s most highly respected citizens in the person of Mrs A. Thorley. Mrs. Thorley came to Alexandra from Levin with her husband and family some 12 years ago, and quickly became a favourite with all who knew her. She was a very prominent church worker, and was untiring in her activities on behalf of the various organisations connected with St. Aidan’a Anglican Church. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Messrs Alfred Thorley, of Pembroke, and John Thorley. of the Post and Telegraph Department, Alexandra. The funeral, which was largely attended by residents from all over the district, took place at Clyde yesterday: The services at the church and the gravesiifc were conducted by the Rev; A. B. Pywell.
