LADIES’ HOCKEY

ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Otago Ladies’ Hockey Association was held last evening in the Y.W.C.A. Mrs G. A. Nelson presided over a good attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mrs Nelson said that the standard of play during the season had been high, particularly in the case of the secondary schools’ matches. There were more representative matches than usual in Dunedin in the past season, and the senior team had been victorious in every match. There appeared to have been more enthusiasm among the B Grade players than in the Senior Grade, and the B Grade team had done very well. A pleasing feature of the season was the affiliation of two new clubs to the association. The association had £4O less this year' than last year, and this decrease was partly accounted for by the cost of the function given for the primary school players. Travelling had also been a substantial item. The only times the association could charge for admission to matches was for representative fixtures, and the speaker was sorry to say that the players did nofc support these matches as they should. If the players did not support these representative matches the public would not be expected to do so.' The report and balance sheet were adopted without discussion. Mrs Nelson reported that there was an application before the meeting for the affiliation of a club to be known aa the “Dunedin Hockey Club.” She explained that the Triangle Club was likely to become defunct, and the new club was being formed by members of that club. —The application was received. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year;-—President, Mrs R. Hudson; vice-presidents—Mrs G. A. Nelson, Miss M. White, Miss F. Campbell, Miss M. Hervey, Miss M. Kingston, Miss M. Adams, Messrs H. L. Tapley, P. W. Shacklock, P. R. Ritchie, H. Harris, G. A. Nelson, R. E. Feidler, Dr K. Ross, and Dr W. Newlands; committee —Miss C. Sonntag, Misses R. Sergeant, M. Blagdon, and N. Mullenger; secretary. Miss M. Hill; delefates to New Zealand Association, Miss !. Yorston and Mrs Downs. The opening day of the season was fixed for April 23.
