BOROUGH OF ST. KILDA

MEETING OF COUNCIL The fortnightly meeting of the St. Kilda Council was held last night, and was attended by the Mayor (Mr J.. Beattie), Crs H. H. Leary, G. Stratton. J. Cameron, G. Glue, W. G. Bair a. E. Longworth, A. D. Edgar, and R. Telfer. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from the St. Kildr. Unemployed Association expressing iis appreciation of tliq manner in which the council met it with regard to the hire of the Coronation and iown HaJs for the association’s weekly dance. —Recglvgcl. Advice was received from the secretary of the Otago Hospital Board that, subject to the Government allocation being ot a similar amount for the current year, the maintenance levy for the board for 1931933 would be the same as for 1931-1932. Moreover, no levy would be made tor capital expenditure during the forthcoming year.—Received. FOREMAN'S REPORT.

The borough foreman (Mr J. Clyma) reported that tar sealing had been carried out in the following streets during the fortnight ended March 12:— De Carle street, 12 i chains; Princes street 37 chains; Grey street, six chains; Eskvaie street, 23 chains. Streets had been patched and a quantity of spoil had been carted About 100 unemployed men had been engaged in grassing streets. The report was adopted. TRAFFIC INSPECTOR’S REPORT. The- traffic and sanitary inspector reported that four drivers’ and seven heavy traffic licenses had been issued during the fortnight ended on March 19. One notification of infectious disease had been received and two disinfections carried out. The report was adopted. WATER CONSUMPTION.

The town clerk (Mr W. G. Griffin) reported that the water consumption for the fortnight ended at noon that day was 4,510,000 gallons, at a cost of £ll2 18s, compared with £lls 5s for the previous two weeks. —Noted. FINANCE.

Accounts amounting to £10,461 6s Sd were passed for payment.
