NEW SOUTH WALES COMPANIES AMENDMENT BILL. SYDNEY, March 19. The State Parliament adjourned until April 25. The Companies Amendment Bill was allowed to stand over in Council after a petition praying for its modification was presented, and counsel was heard at the bar of the House on behalf of Messrs R. Parker and D. Packer. He explained the financial position of certain of the newspapers affected, and asked the House to say it was not the place to deal with matters of such grave importance to companies. *
The Herald says it is leamt in the lobbies that the Ministry has decided to drop the Bill, as it would be defeated in the Council, and it is rumoured that Mr Concannon (Hon, Minister in the Legislative Council) threatened to resign if the Government went ahead with the measure.
