BALCLUTHA DISTRICT NEWS (From Our Own Correspondent.) BALCLUTHA, March 18. At the sale at Ratanui on Tuesday of the property and sawmill of William Goss and Co. (in liquidation), a freehold area of 205 acres was sold to Mr Joseph Meek for £7O. Mr Meek also purchased a leasehold of 14 acres for, £l3. The mill and plant were sold piecemeal at prices that must have represented a big drop on their initial cost. OWAKA COURT. At the Owaka Court yesterday, before Mr H. J. Dixon, S.M., J. C. Calder was charged with driving a car while intoxicated. The charge was dismissed. James Parker, Tahakopa, was fined £5, with costs (10s), for keeping an unregistered slaughterman. Peter Mason, charged with failure to register under the Unemployment Act, was convicted and ordered to pay costs (10s).

Walter Whittle, charged with delivering a revolver to a person not having a right to it, was convicted and fined 10s, with costs (10s). Judgment for plaintiff was given in the following cases:—David Henderson v. James Parker, claim £4 4s 6d, with costs (12s); E. Lockerbie v. H. Meek, claim 18s Bd, with costs (14s). No order was made in a claim on a judgment summons by the estate of George Sheddan against William Renton for £3 Is Id.

Decision was reserved in the case in which Helen Glass proceeded against Elsie Glass for possession of a farm property at Ratanui. David Neil, Tahakopa, claimed 13s Cd damage from A. M. Galbraith, arising out of a bush “ burn ” which had spread to the plaintiff’s property. After lengthy evidence judgment was given for the plaintiff for £ll 6s, with costs (£6 2s).
