ALEXANDRA NOTES (From Oob Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, March 17. The weather continues beautifully fine and is as pleasant as has been experienced here for some months. There are a considerable number of holiday-makers still here, and the camping ground is well patronised, an average of two or three parties camping there nightly. MINERS’ ASSOCIATION. At a special meeting_ of the Miners’ Association the advisability of endeavouring to run an art union for the purpose of assisting the gold mining industry in Central Otago was discussed, the _ proceeds to go towards the following mining associations: —St. Bathans, Naseby, Roxburgh. Matakanui, Arrowtown, Queenstown, Cromwell, and Alexandra. It was decided to forward an application to the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Adam Hamilton) for the necessary permission. HAIR-CUTTING WAR. What may be termed a war in haircutting has commenced .in Alexandra, where it is now possible to obtain a hair, cut for 6d, which is probably a record for New Zealand. The survey of the new irrigation dam in the Lower Manorhurn is now nearing completion. The first site tested proved unsatisfactory, and the surveyor had to look for a more suitable one, which they have now found. Advice has been received by the local Unemployment Committee that local unemployed will be engaged, the rate of pay being:—;Three-day men, £1 17s 6d; and four-day men, £2 10s. PERSONAL. Mr T. M'Millan, inspector of mines, was in Alexandra on official business on Tuesday. Mr E. O. MacPherson, Government geologist, has arrived in Alexandra to make inquiries in connection with the mining industry. He will probably be in this district for some time. Mr G. A. Fortune, registrar of pensions, was in Alexandra on Wednesday. Residents of Ranfurly and surrounding districts will be pleased to note the opening of an up-to-date Boot and Shoe Store in Ranfurly, known as the Mauiototo Boot and Shoe Supply, where quality, service, and satisfaction are guaranteed.— Advt.
