The Milton friendly societies combined annual picnic has been fixed for Saturday, January 30, at Woodhaugh Gardens (if suitable) or at St. Kilda Beach. i PERSONAL. The installation of Bro. E. Moore as Right Worshipful Master of St. John’s Masonic Lodge, and investiture of officers, has been fixed for Thursday evening, February 4. Mr M. Maitland, manager and operator of Messrs Stone and Strain’s “ talkies ” at Milton, will leave next Monday to take a similar position at the firm’s Bluff busineThe Rev. Charles Dallaston, of Dunedin, will conduct services at Toko Presbyterian Church during the Rev. A. M'Neur’s absence on annual holiday, which will be spent in a motoring tour of Central Otago and the southern lakes district in company with his brother, the Rev. Alexander M'Neur, of Mataura. CRICKET. The third round of the South Otago Association’s Shield competition will be commenced on Saturday afternoon. The Tokomairiro district has lost another of its pioneering settlers by the death of Mrs Henry Hamilton, which occurred at her residence, Brooklands, Milton, at the advanced age of 84 years. The deceased lady, whose maiden name was Janet (Jessie) Allison, wps born in 1847, in Loudown parish, Scotland, near the birthplace of Robert Burns. In 1865 she accompanied 'her brother John ■when he emigrated to New Zealand in the ship Paria, to join two other brothers who had previously settled in Moneymore (Southbridge) district. They landed at Port Chalmers in January, 1866, and immediately settled in the Tokomairiro district, where the deceased lady had sfhce resided continuously for the lengthy period of 65 years. In 1870 she was married to Mr Henry Hamilton at Waihola, the officiating clergyman being the late Rev. J. M. Allan. After residence at Moneymore for a period of years they removed to the old Anglican Church parsonage in 1882. Mrs Hamilton’s husband predeceased her in 1910. Of a family of 12,- there are six sons and three daughters surviving. The deceased was the last surviving member of the Allison family of 10 who settled in the Southbridge district. The funeral to Fairfax Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon was attended by a large concourse of mourners, and the service was conducted by the Rev. A. M'Neur.
