HALF CENTURY AT ONE PIT
For over half a century a two-man clay pit has been worked at Shelf, near Halifax, England, by Mr Rufus Barraclough, a 72-year-old farmer, and one The pit >s on a field in Mr Barraclough’s land, and the clay is sent to the Castleford potteries to be used for potters troughs. The digging, roofing, truck-loading, and repairs have all been carried out by this aged farmer-pitman, who is now helped by his son.
