PALMERSTON NOTES
(From, Our Own Correspondent.) PALMERSTON. July 16, ODDFELLOWS’ BALL.
The annual ball of the Palmerston Oddfellows was held on Tuesday night. There were about 100 couples present, including visitors from surrounding lodges. The grand march was led off by N.G. Bro. A. H. Cowan and Mrs Cowan. Excellent music was supplied by the Sports Orchestra, Dunedin. Messrs W. Dreaver, S.'Dreaver, G. Morrison, and W. Gilliand carried out the duties of M.C.’s. : PLUNKET SOCIETY.
k The monthly meeting of the Palmerston branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket room, the president (Mrs MKeuney) presiding over a good attendance of members. The Plunket nurse reported that .colds were common among babies and older children, but otherwise their, progress was satisfactory. One hundred and five visits had been paid to homes in the district, while 73 adults, 64 babies, and 6 older children had visited the office during the month. It had been arranged for Nurse Turner to take her annual holiday this month, her work to be carried on by Nurse Walsh, who was present for a short time to meet members of the committee. Accounts amounting to £45 12s 6d were passed for payment. Votes of thanks were passed to the Bowling Club for the gift of the bowling boxes, to. Mesdames MTherson,Stenhouse, and A; H. McGregor for gifts of cakes for the’ stall at the stock sale, to Miss Coutts .and Mrs M'Gregor for assistance :at the stall, and to Mrs M'Kenney tor providing afternoon tea. Two new members wore appointed to the committee.
