The Indian Assembly passed the Wheat Bill, imposing a heavy duty on imported wheat, and two rupees per hundredweight on imported flour. CANADIAN GRAIN TRADE. AN EXPORT BOUNTY DUTY. OTTAWA, March 31, The payment of an export bounty duty by the Federal Government to stimulate the grain trade was brought up in the House of Commons by Mr A. M. Carmichael (Progressive). He said that at a meeting held at Glidden (Saskatchewan)' a resolution was passed calling on the Government to pay an export duty of 15 cents on wheat, 10 cents on rye, and 5 cents on oats. Had the Government, he asked, given consideration to this plan, or was there an alternative under consideration? The Prime Minister requested that the question be placed on the Order Paper. (Received April 1, at 11 p.m.) At the Wheat Conference Sir George Ferguson (Canada) moved that a meeting of all wheat exporting countries be called in order to organise exports on an international basis.
