A FRACTURED PLATE.
MOTOR SHIP HAURAKI. GROUNDED AT NEW PLYMOUTH. (Per United Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, February 22. The motor vessel Hauraki grounded while being berthed at New Plymouth on Saturday morning on the east side of the Newton King wharf, which is seldom used for overseas-ships, but was brought into commission this week owing to the large number of big ships in port or expected. A diver, on investigation, found a fractured plate under No. 2 tank, and oil from No. 5 tank had apparently been escaping and had risen to the top of the water. The mishap is not considered serious. The ship will probably discharge and proceed to Auckalnd on Tuesday, according to schedule. It is expected the vessel will go into dock at Auckland for inspection and repairs.
