PLUNKET SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the 'committee of the Plunket Society was held in the Plunket office on Friday. Present: Mrs Johnstone (in the chair), Lady Allen, Lady Sidey, Mesdames Joseph M'George, R. S. Black, W. Wilson, Cox, Williams, Mandeno, G. Gallaway, Cairney, L. F. Cleghorn, Cunninghame, Watson, J. C. M'George, Mieses N. Reid and Downia Stewart' and the secretary. Apologies were received from Mesdames J. M. Gallaway, Fraser, Taverner, Marshall Macdonald, Brown, Barnett, and Miss Oppenheipi. ‘ The treasurer presented a statement of the society’s finances to date and accounts were passed for payment. Sister Nora was unanimously granted leave of absence from the committee for 12 months.

Mrs Andrew Begg was unanimously elected as a member of the cpmmittee. The matron, Karitane-Harris Hospital, Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, reported as follows for the month of December, 1930: — Patients admitted during the month — mothers 12, babies 17; patients discharged during the month—mothers 13, babies 17; largest number in residence any one day —mothers 5, babies 19. Patients were admitted from Balclutha, Kelso, Wingatui. Sawyers’ Bay, Macandrew Bay, Port Chalmers and Dunedin and suburbs. Visitors for the month numbered 393. The Plunket nurses’ examination was held on November 27 and 28, the following being candidates: —Nurses I. Dynes, R. Gloppestad, J. Scott, D. Pierard, M. Dingwall, G. Seymour, K. Stevenson, R. Dale, R. M'Carroll, T. Jennings, E. Cliff, J. Huggett, R. Campbell, M. Jamieson, M. Birch, 6. Small, I. Jenkins, F. Brown, J. Richmond, E. Sellars. Miss Phyllis M'Donald, Oamaru, commenced her term of training as a Karitane nurse on December 10. A demonstration on the bathing and dressing of a normal baby was given by the senior class of Karitane nurses at Mosgiel on December 3, and at Karitane-Harris Hospital on December 9, when 50 school girls from Forbury School were present, and at Karitane Hospital on December 13 to 50 Girl Guides. ' The Plunket nurse for Anderson s hay district and out-stations (south line) reported as follows for the month of ■DDecember: —Babies on the list, 276; older children on the list, 42; new cases for the month (babies only), 12; babies breastfed (including partly), new eases, 11; visits paid to Plunket rooms— Anderson s Bay, 127 mothers, 107 babies, 20 older ehildern; Mosgiel, mothers 62, babies So, older children 20; Outram, mothers o, babies 5; Green Island, mothers 25 babies 21, older children 8. Babies were admitted from Balclutha, Taieri Mouth, St. Andrews, Green Island, Timaru, Mosgiel and Dunedin and suburbs. Visitors for the month numbered 307. The outstanding event of the month was the visit to our hospital of her Excellency Lady Bledisloe accompanied by the Mayoress (Mrs Black), on the morning of January 8. The usual doctor’s lectures for the December to April term were given by Dr Williams during the month to Plunket and senior Karitane nurses.
