RIFLE SHOOTING.

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB. The Dunedin Defence Rifle Club abot the first competition for prizes presented by President G. C. Proudfoot on Saturday afternoon. There were 24 competitors, and seven shots (one optional sighter), each were fired at 300, 500, and 600 yards. Conditions were favourable and some good scores were registered. At 300 yards Deputy-president J. T. Gillan was highest with 33. At 600 yards Rifleman J. M‘Knight was top with 33, Rifleman A. Dippie was highest at 600 yards with S 4. Cooper 28 30 25 TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB. _ The Timaru Defence Rifle Club held its sixth weekly shoot on the club range at Scarborough on Saturday afternoon. There were 32 riflemen competing. The match was: Seven shots at 300, 500, and 600 yard ranges. The day was good, but the light favoured some, while others seemeef to be in trouble with it owing to the mirage. Riflemen W. Bradshaw and C. Blackwood each registered a nossible at 500 yards. Riflemen C. Carmichael provided the surprise packet of the day by scoring 98 oS the rifle, being three points ahead of the next man. His 600 yards score was the best of the day at that range. The match of the day was won by Rifleman A. Duncan, one of the young shots of the club. His score was 94 o£ the rifle, and nine of a handicap, making him 103. 6. Carmichael was second with 101, and G. Johnson was third with 100; The Gold Rifle was won by Rifleman G. Carmichael with G. Blackwood runner-up. W. Bradshaw still holds his position in the lead for the championship. G. Carmichael came up from seventh place to third. C. Blackwood and H. Hopkins still hold second and fourth places respectively. The Ardmore Cup Handicap saw a big change. L. Smith went back from first to ninth, Bradshaw came up to the front from second, while A. Duncan came from eighth to second. C. Blackwood has come up to'the leading position in the bull’s eye competition. Bradshaw still holds his position in the M'Glashan Aggregate, with C. Blackwood only one point behind him.

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday the above club fired the first competition o£ No. 2 match over 300, 500, and 600 yards (seven shots and one optional sighter). The Goodwood Defence Rifle Club fired the second day of a three-day competition on Saturday. The conditions were seven shots at 300 and 600 yards. Weather conditions were very patchy, the.firet men down at each range having good conditions, but light rain, with very dull light and strong wind, were the lot of the last men at 300 yards.
