DANCE RECITAL.

PUPILS OF OTAGO SCHOOL OF DANCING. The pupils of the Otago School of Dancing, of which Mies Gwen Webster is the principal, gave a recital last night in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall before a large attendance. A lengthy programme was presented in a manner which left no doubt as to the excellence of the tuition and the capabilities of the performers. The dancing generally reached a high standard, the choice of items giving the pupils as a whole every opportunity to be seen at their best. One of the outstanding features of the performance was the excellence of the costuming. The programme generally was received with enthusiasm and encores were frequent. The first half of the programme contained no fewer than 18 items varying widely in type. “ Romance Sana Parolo ’’ made an impressive opening ballet. Misses Kitty and Phyllis Eckhoff and Myra Lord were a dainty trio of soloists. Miss Marjorie Rhodes was Cupid, and the corps de ballet were Misses D. Judd, M. Davey, O. Ross, E. Lord, A. Patton, M. Davie, and N. Lunam. A duo. “An Old Fashioned Dance,” by two of the junior pupils, Misses Irene Scott and Joyce Smith, was warmly received. Miss Dorothy Judd was the soloist in a popular jazz ballet, "Lonesome Little Doll,” and another ballet, “An Episode,” gave excellent opportunities to Misses Thelma Anthony. Edna Todd, F. Bryan, J. Anthony (who also contributed a solo dance), D. Milburn, J. Bryan, Z. Morris, and B. Bryan. ' One of the outstanding items was a acrobatic scena by the pupils of the school. Solos by Miss Helen Wilson, Miss Noni Davidson, and Mr L. Harrison Stubbs lent variety to the performance and were well received.

The second portion of the programme was occupied by a novelty revue entitled “ Peter and Wendy,” Misses Kitty Eckhoff and Frances Patton filling the parts of Peter and Wendy respectively with distinction. The revue, which described the visit of two children to an enchanted garden, proved to be an altogether .charmng performance, to which several outstanding contributions were made. A very large cast included Miss Eileen Meade as an assisting artiste. The musical portion of the programme was under the direction of Miss Doreen Sheehy, who gave valuable assistance in the presentation of a very enjoyable entertainment.
