BANANAS FROM SAMOA.
REGULAR SHIPMENTS ASSURED. When interviewed yesterday by a Daily Times representative, Mr J. H. Duncan, manager for Messrs H. L. Tapley and Co., supplied additional particulars concerning the supply of Samoan bananas for the Dunedin market. He confirmed the statement made last week that Messrs iapley and Co. had secured the contract for supplying shipments of bananas from aamoa. It was hoped that the Government motor ship Maui Pomare would make replar trips to Dunedin and other South Island ports, and merchants were assured that supplies would reach the market at intervals. In referring to the statement that had appeared in the newspapers in regard to duty of 2 a 6d per caie that nould be charged on bananas shipped from Samoa, Mr Duncan said he was vitally interested in the matter, and investigated the position when in Wellington last JT ee “; stated most emphatically that the duty would have no bearing on the price charged for Samoan bananas in New Zealand.
