WANAKA NOTES.

(From Oue Own Correspondent.) PEMBROKE, December 1, THE WEATHER.

The weather continues to be unsettled. A steady rise in the barometer on Friday to 30.5 gave promise of more seasonable conditions. The district has greatly benefited by the rainfall of the past two weeks, and a period of warm, caljn weather would further enhance crop and pasture prospects. On Saturday the Wanaka cricket team successfully defended a challenge by Luggate for the Williams Cup. The' match* was played on the Pembroke Domain, and was won by Wanaka by 83 runs. The only batsman on the Luggate side to reach double figures was W. Wilson, who was not out with 13 to his credit. The Wanaka bowlers, Withnell and Ironside, bowled unchanged throughout, the former securing four wickets for 20 runs and the latter six for 17. The Wanaka team made 136 runs. C. Collings (53), S. Willetts (23), D. Galloway (16), J. Withnell (16), and I. Mackay were the double-figure scorers. The most successful bowlers for Luggate were R. Todd (two for 34), J. Stuart (five for 39), R. Gillespie (one for 19), and R. Collinga (two for 14).
