CENTRAL OTAGO.

MIDDLEMARCH NOTES.

(From Oue Own Correspondent.) MIDDLEMARCH, December 1. The weather during the month o£ November has been very disagreeable. The high winds experienced at the beginning of the month continued throughout. The Rock and Pillar Range has been repeatedly covered with snow far below the enow line, and it is only during, the last few days that most of the snow has disappeared. On Wednesday, November 26, 67 points of rain fell, and it was hoped that this was the beginning of improved conditions. Thursday night, however, brought a disastrous frost, which has" cut down the potatoes to the ground, while some of the fruit has also suffered damage. Friday and Saturday were very fine, but the wind rose again in the evening, and has been blowing ever since. Seldom has the district looked worse at this season of the year. Many of the pastures closed up for hay are not worth cutting, and are being grazed off, while turnips sown over a month ago are not yet above the ground.
