SOUTH OTAGO FIRE BRIGADES

MILTON WINS WATT CHALLENGE CUP. (From Ock Own Correspondent.) MILTON, December 1. The annual competition amongst fire brigades _ affiliated to the South Otago Fire Brigades’ Sub-association for tho Watt Silver Challenge Gup, Gilberd Memorial, and other trophieseventuated at-Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The weather was delightful, and there was a fgir attendance of interested spectators. Memorial, and other trophies, eventuated at Lawrence on Saturday afternoon. The clutha (two teams), Lawrence, Kaitangata,. and Tapanui—-the latter brigade entering the competition for the first time. The programme, was divided into four events, all of which were conducted on the “dry” principle, and some good times were recorded, also excellent work in coupling the hose and branches. The coveted Challenge Cup was won by Milton A team with 40 points on tho aggregate scores in the five, three, and two-men events; Balclutha (last year’s winners) were second with 28 points; Lawrence (1928 winners) third with 21 points. Wills, Firemen J. Baker, M. Baker,!. M‘Lean, A. Wills); Lawrence (Weatherall, Carruthers, Murray, Saxon, Gunn), 25 4-ssec (including 2sec penalty). THREE-MEN EVENT.

Milton C, Firemen Baker, M’Lean, and Wills (22sec), and Lawrence, A. Weatbernll, Carruthers, Saxon (22sec), tied for second place. Also competed: Clutha C (disqualified), Kaitangata A (34 l-ssec), Tapanui A (blow out), Milton B (24sec)), Balclutba A (31 4-ssec), Lawrence B (24 3-ssec), Balclutba B (31sec).
