(Per United Press Association.) t AUCKLAND, December 1. “I have no doubt the girl was an enticing party, and you did not need to exercise persuasion,” said Mr Justice Smith when sentencing Robert Desmond Colhoun (aged 24) for unlawful carnal knowledge. “On the.other hand, the law says young men are not to have carnal knowledge of girls .under 16, whether they consult or not, and men who are intimate with them are so at their own risk.” The sentence was three months, with hard labour. William Pearce, aged 69, for burglaries and thefts, was sentenced to four years, with hard labour. CHRISTCHURCH, December 1. Doreen Barrel!, the infant daughter of Mr E. Barrell, Colombo street, had a remarkable escape from serious injury yesterday. As the result of the door of a motor car in which she was riding opening, the child tumbled out on the road, falling in the path of another car. Fortunately she fell between the wheels of the vehicle, which passed over her without causing any injury.
