OTAGO ROWING ASSOCIATION.

. MONTHLY MEETING, The monthly meeting of the Otago Rowing Association was held last evening, the president (Mr W. J. Wilson) presiding over a good attendance of delegates. The secretary of the Southland Rowing Association stated that applications had been made to the N.Z.A.R.A. for the transfer from an eight from Canterbury to Southland. It was .understood that Canterbury possessed two boats, and was using only one. The sport in Southland would benefit considerably if the Southland crews had the use of an eight, and the support of the Otago Association for the application was solicited. —Received. MACANDREW BAY REGATTA.

The secretary, of the Macandrew Bay Regatta Committee advised that the amount of the prize money allotted for rowing races at the Macandrew Bay regatta was £3O, the same as last year. The races were as follow: —Youths' Fours, ±2 10s, 15s; Junior Double Sculls, £2, £1; Maiden Fours, £3, £1; Youths' Double Sculls, £2, 15s; Senior Fours, £5, £1; Maiden Double Sculls, £2, 15s; Junior Fours, £4, £1; Senior Double Sculls, £2 10s, 15s.—Received. EDMOND SHIELD CONTEST. .

The. secretary of the Southland Rowing Association asked if Otago would be prepared to defend the Edmond Shield against Southland at the Bluff regatta on January 1. The reinstatement of this race would act as a stimulus to rowing in Southland.—Mr W. G. Glengarry stated that he would like to see the contest revived, and moved that Otago be represented at the Bluff regatta to defend the Edmond Shield contest.—The motion was seconded by Mr W. Robinson.—Mr C. R. Caffin expressed the. opinion that as the association would have to bear a considerable amount of expense this season the present state of the association’s finances did not warrant the expense of sending a crew to Bluff.—Mr E. v. Fairbairn stated that the question arose as to wether, by reviving the contest, the association, would be assisting the Southland Association, or merely providing another attraction for the benefit of the Bluff Regatta. Committee.—After some further discussion Mr Glengarry's motion was put to the meeting and lost, and the secretary was instructed to advise the Southland Rowing Association that, in the Otago Association’s-opinion, the proposed date for the contest was too early in the season. The secretary (Mr S. 6. Styche), in reporting on the annual conference of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association, thanked the association for the honour it had done him in nominating him for the position of president. He would have been, pleased to see Mr Wilson in the presidential chair in place of himself,. as the president of the Otago Association had been connected with the sport, and ■ fully deserved the honour.—The chairman congratulated Mr Styche on his election to the highest position in Dominion rowing circles, and expressed the conviction that he would fill the presidential chair very worthily.—Mr Styche was then accorded a hearty vote of thanks for the excellent manner in which he had represented the association at the conference.

EIGHT-OAR CHAMPIONSHIP. The date of the Interprovincial Eightoar Championship, to be held at Dunedin, was fixed for Saturday, Match 21. It was decided to hold the contest over the championship course, starting from the Cove and finishing in the steamer basin. It was also decided to hold the association a regatta at Port Chalmers on March V.
