SHOOTING THE WEIRS.
STUDENTS’ CANOE FEAT. Mr A. S. Hopkinaon, editor of the Ipjs, and another Oxford etudent, Mr B. Nicholson, attempted one night lately to shoot several weirs oq the Thames in s canoe—a feat never essayed since Mr Hilaire Belloc went over : some 20 years ago. Mr Hopkinsoq and Mr NichofsOn sue* cess fully shot the Magdalen Mill and Iffley Mill weird, but at the Long Bridges weir their canoe was upset, and Mr Nichglspn was knocked almost uncon* scions, Some young men camping on the bank threw out a lifebelt, and he was towed ashore. * About a week previously Mr Hopkinaon, Mr Bernard Wall, Mr Denml Batchelor ’and Mr Hugh Speaight tia* versed the underground sewers of Oxford, and a fortnight previously Mr Hopkinaon descended the medisaval well in the castle grounds. ■
