MANIOTOTO HOSPITAL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Maniotbto Hospital Committee was attended by Messrs H. W. Davis (chairman), W. Smith, F. Freed, James Smith, T. C. Here, and J. M'Millan. Nurse Campbell (.Cromwell) and Nurse M. Greig (Akaroa) applied for positions on the maternity staff, and the applications were accepted. The chief electrical engineer (Wellington) wrote stating that Mr Spry would be in the district shortly, and would inspect the hospital electric lines. The doctor reported as follows for March and .April:—During March 26 patients were treated, 11 males and 15 females. Of these six males (including one death) _ were discharged, and 10 females, leaving_ five of each sex under treatment. During April eight males and 11 females were treated, making a total of 19. The discharges were five males and seven females, leaving three and four respecbtively under treatment. Six babies were born in the hospital during the month.—The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £265 16s Id were recommended for payment. In reply to Mr M'Millan, the chairman said he could not give any definite statement as to when the new hospital would be opened. It would probably be in August, The chairman made reference to the tragic death of Dr T. Harrison, of Cromwell,'and a vote of sympathy with the relatives was carried.
