COULLS, SOMERVILLE, WILKIE, LTD.
Modern conditions demand commercial advertising. Salesmanship must break into the houses and minds of prospective customers. Present-day publicity has adopted the slogan “ Convince with colour.” Circumstances compel advertisers to go a mile,' but the synonym for success is this second mile—colour; cpnvincing, compelling, colour. This is reflected in the equipment of the up-to-date printing plant. Visitors to the Crawford street factory of Messrs Coulls, Somerville, Wilkie, Ltd., evince much interest in the firm's progress to meet the colour, needs of some of the largest commercial ■ houses of the Dominion. Batteries of • machines can be seen both in the lithograph and letterpress departments printing from colour plates, prepared on the premises by photographic methods in line with the recent advances in the science of printing. During the past/year, a new wing, fronting Vogel street, was added to permit the installation of additional lithographic plant, including a Crabtree Ensign Two-colour Super Offset. This British machine, capable of printing a 33in by 48in sheet in two colours at 3250 per hour, promises greatly to increase the output of this department, which, is claimed to be the largect and moist progressive in the Dominion. The ability to meet overseas competition by quality and service is the secret of progress in New Zealand secondary industries, which provide employment for a great army of workers. Messrs Coulls, Somerville, Wilkie, Ltd., state that they recently gained large contracts of colour work previously printed in the Old World, and their aim is to meet all the printing needs of New Zealand business.
