NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. HADFIELD DEFEATS MASON. (Pm: United Press Association.) WHANGAREI, March 1. The race for the professional sculling championship of New Zealand and a stake of £3OO was rowed on the Kohukohu roaches of the Hokianga Harbour this afternoon in good weather conditions, and was witnessed by about 4000 spectators. Darcy Hadfield (challenger) assumed the lead from the start, and holding it throughout easily defeated .Tames Mason, of Whangarci (holder of the title) by two lengths. Time, 20min 15scc.
