AUSTRALIANS v. NORTH ISLAND. FINE DISPLAY BY VISITORS. (Peb United Press Association,! WELLINGTON, February 28. Ideal weather prevailed to-day for the lawn tennis matches between the North Island and the Australian touring team. The visitors proved superior, winning five rubbers to one. D. G. France was disappointing against C. Sproule, whose quiet placements and flectness of foot and steadiness were impressive. France whs quite off form. Kalms overwhelmed Malfroy in the first set, which occupied a few minutes, Malfroy mishitting nearly everything. In the second set Malfroy "handled Kalin’s service well and fought on even terms with the Australian, whose volleying was the deciding factor. r N. E. C. Wilson drove to the side lines and served well against Donohue, who was erring on Wilson’s service. His victory was well deserved. Teague and Stedman gave a good exhibition of baseline driving, hut Stedman tired in the third sot. Teague has a good service and backhand. Kalms and Teague lobbed magnificently in the third set of the doubles, which were disappointing. Wilson played badly, but his partner, Stedman, played well. Wilson left far too many open spaces and Kalms and Teague took advantage of them. The New Zealand doubles champions, France and Malfroy, attacked in vain from the net against Spoule and Donohoc, who were very steady. They made some good recoveries and anticipated well.
