LAWRENCE NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) DAW REN CE, May 4. THE W’EATHER. The rainfall for April was 70 inches for five days’ rain. This has been the driest April for more than six years For the corresponding month last year o.4linches fell for 15 days’ rainfall. The weather at present is fine, with frostv mornings. FOOTBALL NOTES. Last week the Lawrence team signalled its entry into the Tuapeka Sub-uniou’s competition •dj defeating Roxburgh East by 17 points to 3. The game was played on the Recreation Ground, and an interesting match was witnessed. ODDFELLOWSHIP COMPETITION. The annual competition for the Otago District Executive’s shield among South and Central Otago lodges for the best rendition of the ritual bearing on the initiation ceremony of new members for the M.U.1.0.0.P. took place in the lowipHall on Saturday night, six lodges competing. The Queen of Otago Lodge (Kaitangata) was adjudged the winner with 1041 points, Loyal Alexandra Lodge being second with 194 points. Other lodges competing were Loyal Milton 159 J points, Princess Victoria (Milton) 159 points, Tuapeka Pioneer 158 points, Loyal Roxburgh 144 points. P.P.G.M. H. Russell and P.G. \V. Hutton (Loyal Valley Lodge) acted as judges. P.G.M. Bro. P. Young congratulated the sister lodge on again winning the shield. After the competition a social and musical evening was held. GOLF CLUB. The annual mecthing of the Lawrence Golf Club was held on Wednesday night. Mr J. R. Smyth occupied the chair. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. The officers elected for the coming season were as follows:—President, Mr J. R, Smyth; vice-presidents, Mr A. Arthur and Mrs Moore; club captain, J. M'Ara; committee, Misses Hopkins and Nicolls and Messrs Moore and Grant. Several new members were elected. ; WAITAHUNA BRASS BAND. The annual meeting of the Waitahuua Brass Band was held on Wednesday night, Mr K. Murray (president) being in the chair. The balance sheet showed ihat the receipts for the year were £sl 12s 7d, and the expenses £4B, leaving a credit of £3 Os sd. The conductor, Mr Auld, was commended for his enthusiasm in -coaching young players to take the place of members leaving the district. All the officials, were re-elected for the ensuing year. At the end -of the annual meeting a social and dance was field.
