FIRES.
LARGE HOUSE DESTROYED. •' (Pbb United Pbess Association.) WHANGAREI, May 1. A seven-roomed house owned and occupied by Mr J. W. Langland, of Tutukaka, was completely destroyed by ■ fire yesterday afternoon. The family . 'of nine lost everything except the clothes they were wearing. A piano and radio were included in the effects. The insurances are not available. OUTBREAK IN BRANCH BANK. (Peb United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 1. An outbreak of fire occurred on the premises of the Commercial Bank at ■ Eastbourne nt an early hour, and the interior of the office was destroyed. The building is shared by a Chinese green grocer, who discovered the flames about 2.15 o’clock and called the brigade. The bank’s office, is only a small branch', which opens twice a week. The building was insured for £OOO in the State Office. GOLF PAVILION BURNT. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The golf club pavilion at Rangiora was destroyed _ by fire early this' morning. Incendiarism is suspected owing to several suspicious fires recently, including the destruction.of the Kaiapoi Golf Club pavilion. , FRUIT SHED DESTROYED. On Tuesday afternoon the packing shed on Mr F. G. Duncan’s orchard at Sunnyvale, Island Block, with its contents, which included about 1500’ cases of fruit ready for shipment and 2500 empty cases, was completely destroyed by fire. The origin of the fire is unknown, and as neither the fruit nor the cases were insured, Mr Duncan expects : that his loss will be in the neighbourhood of £IOOO.
